Pulling out my Hair!!

Oh My Stars!!!!  This research process is extremely trying.  I have picked a particularly popular topic to research and know just from job experience that there are a lot of studies that have been done in response to my chosen research topic.  I chose how to manage challenging behaviors inside the classroom.  This is stimulated by my own personal need to help support the 3 year classrooms that I currently supervise.   These rooms in particular are the other cause of sleepless nights despite my daytime efforts and strategies.  My 3 year old rooms are out of CONTROL!!!   As I have tried to research this topic I have come to realize that my worst fear has been realized and that is….. I am terrible at research.  I mean really is anyone else getting directed to sites that you have to pay and subscribe to in order to review the full articles?  Is anyone finding the ERIC search engine is difficult to use???  I am beyond frustrated with this process.  I even tried just straight Google ad that is getting about the same results.  I will need you all’s continued support and insight if I am going to make it through this class.  Please help if you have unlocked the secret to finding great journals that are quality.

  1. This research article from the Walden Library discribes a study highlighting the differences between 3 year olds and 4 year olds. My experience has been that preschool teachers often expect three year olds to be able to process directions and tasks like 4 year olds. It is just not developmentally possible; causing chaos in the classroom.-Wendy

  2. I forgot to mention-great sense of humor! Your cartoon drew me in.
Here is another study that should help, in Walden Library.

  3. Haley I absolutely feel for you and find myself in a similar situation. I absolutely love your pictures and identify strongly with them!!!. However, I decided to see what I could do to help you by going onto the Walden Library Link to see what I could come up with. I selected the Education Research Complete Data Base.
At the top I typed in
    "challenging behaviors in young children"
    and selected the
    "TX -all text"
option and came up with the following results:
(I have not looked at all the articles and research, these are just the papers available on the first two pages out of five. The articles all seem recent. Some of them will be more relevant than others. I sincerely hope that I have not misinterpreted your needs and I hope that the information provided above and below will at least be of some help to you. Here's hoping and praying for guidance and wisdom for all of this as we embark on this very new journey together.)

  4. Hi Haley, I loved your pictures and could relate to your frustrations. I experienced the same difficulty with coming across articles that they wanted you to pay in order to read the entire article. I kept thinking that I must be doing something wrong. I hope you were able to find some credible articles on your topic. You have chosen a very interesting subject and one that is very relevant to your current situation. Good luck!

  5. Haley, I truly understand what you are feeling right now. The research process is trying. Challenging behaviors inside the classroom is also an area I would like to know more about. You have to explore more than one article on the site. I know some of the sites that I visited had a section for free articles. Good Luck

  6. Haley,
I don't think you are alone with how you feel in regard to research!! I am also having a bit of trouble-but if we help each other then we should all be able to conquer this monster and learn so much needed knowledge :-) Your pictures are great!!
